gas hike!

Posted in Uncategorized on May 19, 2008 by minn14

THIS IS NOT THE ‘DON’T BUY’ GAS FOR ONE DAY, BUT IT     WILL SHOW YOU HOW WE CAN GET GAS BACK DOWN TO     $1.30 PER GALLON.

This was sent by a retired Coca Cola executive.  It came from one of his engineer buddies who retired from Halliburton.  If you are tired of the gas prices going up AND they will continue to rise this summer, take time to read this please.

Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea.

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the ‘don’t buy gas on a certain day’  campaign that was going around last April or May!
It’s worth your consideration.  Join the resistance!!!!

I hear we are going to hit close to $ 4.00 a gallon by next summer and it might go higher!!  Want gasoline prices to come down?

We need to take some intelligent, united action.  The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn’t continue to ‘hurt’ ourselves by refusing to buy gas.

It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them.
BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can Really work.  Please read on and join with us!

By now you’re probably thinking gasoline priced at about $2.00 is super cheap.  Me too!  It is currently $ 3.15 for regular unleaded in my town.

Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50 – $1.75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace...not sellers.

With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action.

The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas!  And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.

How?  Since we all rely on our cars, we can’t just stop buying gas.

But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war.

Here’s the idea: For the rest of this year, DON’T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL.

If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices.   If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.

But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers.  It’s really simple to do!  Now, don’t wimp out on me at this point…keep reading and I’ll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!

I am sending this note to 30 people.  If each of us send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) ..  and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000)…and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth group of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers.
If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted!

If it goes one level further, you guessed it…..  THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!

Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people.  That’s all!

(If you don’t understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send this to 10 people….  Well, let’s face it, you just aren’t a mathematician.  But I am .  so trust me on this one.

How long would all that take?  If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!!

what are your concerns about the environment?

What are your concerns about the environment?
As i read more about the environment that is surrounding me.I grew more aware and concern on what’s actually happenning in the world of– reality. The Mirror of our fate caught my attention wherein the “Dutch explorer , Jacob Roggeveen first, found the Easter Island and his first impression was “A wasteland”;There are no trees or bushes  over ten ft tall,It has no native land, animals larger than insects and no domestic animal except chickens”. Diamond, Jarred. “Mirror of fate”. Patagonia spring 2005.I realize just now what if this happens to us now? What will happen to the world we live in?  Where there will be no plants and animals. If this happenning  then; it is still happening now. Like for instance my main concern is , why are there are still people or builders that are allowed to build houses or buildings on a place where we plant and grow produce which only make you more think that not only they are building in the area of palntation ;where do they get the woods to build the houses from? That means  they’re not only destroying the palntaion yet they are also destroying another nature (where they get logs from) someplace else who kow where. . Before i lived in Bakersfield  two years ago,  I used to drive down in Bakersfield to visit my sister and I used to say Wow! there’s nothing here but a farm, there were fewer houses, there were fewer buildings , it was  just a nature with full of promises. But that was the farm that once we get our food from.  I always say this is a boring place up until I lived there  two years ago evrything has changed . There are more houses being built , in the areas were my sister lives and it neighboring area used to be  a grape plantation but now  a new built houses. It just  amazes me how there’s so much changes in a short  period of time;  the land once a plantation ;a farm of grapes, apples and strawberries  are now plain houses. I realized how important that is now that it isn’t there anymore just like when we neglect people around us and yet realized later on how impotant they are in your life when they’re gone. I believed that we should embrace the nature with love and nurture it as we embrace our loved ones for their never be there forever. But Thanks to the modern age, education and the people involved in developing how to save the earth, we have come to our senses that saving the earth is making a big difference . It is for own good. Nature as we think of it the beauty of our land.It give life.

Tan, Amy, “Mother tongue”. Random house incorporated August 1997

I find this is very interesting on how a Chinese woman spoke in broken English

and how she expressed her thoughts through stories. She was able to give her point

a cross or understood by it by giving a detailed stories. Clearly English is not her main

language yet she was able to convey it in such a  way she maybe understood. I think

every culture has their own perspective of showing or how to express language. Although

it is sad to say that she had more hard time expressing when talking to American people. I

don’t see anything wrong with it though. American language itself is broken and limited.

They can speak it well because that is the language they grew up in but then they can’t

simply spell and write at times with out a formal education. I think every culture has its

differences in language and how it is expressed and understood. People shouldn’t

judge people because of how they spoke or  really their message differently than others.  I

say do not judge someone’s character or intelligence by the way they speak.

In respond to Chounard, Yvon reading assignments

I like the way she wrote her story . She creates imagination . When you read , you

would feel like you are a part of the story being told. It is very precise and direct. It is not

easy telling a  story if you have no relation or knowledge to the story you are about to

tell.

I agree with yvon chounard about how people spent more time at home than loving

and experiencing the nature.  I think  at this age in time people have  forgotten what is

it like to be outdoors because  of our lifestyle demand. For one   a lot of us work so hard

to make ends meet , some work two jobs just to provide food and shelter for their

families. For the most part instead of going out and enjoying the great outdoors they are

so tired that they just want to stay home and rest. It is all work no play  because we have

to catch up with the bills. When I was growing up I used to be outside after school playing

almost evrything with my neighbors kids. Now a days children spent their time inside of

their home because parents are scared that one day they’re children will be abducted or

may have an accident on the street because of gang or careless street driver . It’s been a

change world !which led parents to get comfort of being indoor from the influence  of  a

new technology.

I went to lake Tahoe once not too long ago. I just love it! The place is very

peaceful. This is the only time i have realize how much I have forgotten the “great

outdoors”. The place was just outstandingly great. Peaceful and serene. As much as I

want to go  more outdoors, the lifestyle is just preventing me from doing so.

Ranked Annotated Bibliographies

1. Krauker, John. Into the wild. First Anchor Books Edition,February 1997.

This book is the best book that I read through out the semester. Regardless of what happened to the character. It gave me the essence of  living the life in the way you really wanted to be. To be happy and to have hope and courage which he brought to the end of the story.

2. Gore, Al. An Inconvenient truth.Paramount Home entertainment April 2007.

Very informative. It serves positive purpose in life. To challenge yourself in changing your behavior and attitude toward mother earth. Loving the place that you live in. To help our community by way of  cleaning up, conserving energy and Recycling .A daily routine becomes a lifestyle. A little deed make a whole world happy.

3. Poetry reading. Union Artist gallery. Ventura, California May 6, 2008

I had a very interesting experience in union artist gallery. I get to read my poem even though it was  nerve wracking. I was able to share to everyone my thoughts by way of  reading my poem in front of many strangers. I had a great time despite the fact that

4. Tan, Amy. “Mother tongue”. Random House Incorporated August 1997

I am born and raised from the philippines .I undertand completely what amy’s mom is going through and her broken english . English is  not my primary language and sometimes I stummer in trying to speak the english language. A lot of times I caught myself  having conversations and I pause for a while because I forgotten the term that I was suppose to use in english then I start breaking the words I am trying to convey.

5. Diamond, Jared. “The Mirror of our fate”. Patagonia Spring o5 catalogue

“A wasteland with no single tree or bush over ten feet tall .It had no native land animals larger than an insect, no domestic animals except chickens”. What I think is that we are slowly destroying our own land. We don’t take good care of it.

6. Ridgeway, Rick. “Path to survival”. Hearts of winter 2008

Rick showed how important it is for the animals to have a path to survival meaning when the habitats migrate to elsewhere they could always come back to where they’ve started. Instead we are loosing them because it is either they are lost or scared of the highways for instance that is blocking their path to come back.

7. Muir, John. “Hetchy hetchy valley”. Oxford University press August 2006

“These temple destroyers, devotees of ravaging commercialism, seem to have a perfect contempt for Nature, and, instead of lifting their eyes to the God of the mountains, lift them to the Almighty Dollar”. This goes to show that the government officials see our nature as a business not a place for peace and for the people that loved nature. We see families go there and rest, relax and just to enjoy the simplicity our nature has to offer.

8. Thoreau, Henry David. ‘Where I live and what I lived for”. Beacon press July 2004

Very difficult to read and yet was able to deliver his point across to  his reader. He was able to  deliver it’s meaning to the end on how we have forgotten to live the way we should be in the simplest form.We should live it to the fullest , we shouldn’t waste our time doing what we are doing routinely and forgetting  that there is more to life than just working and providing. We can change the way we live if we want to. Live simple.if some have the pleasure of riding on a rail, others have the misfortune to be ridden upon”.  9. Ehrlich, Gretel. “Santa Rosa”. University of California press 1994

Gretel as she talk about Santa Rosa in lengthy pleasing description. She projects a positive note of how she love that she lived in. She did a good job projecting beautiful Santa Rosa, the beaches, the ocean, the terrains. The beautiful Santa Rosa as its best.

10. Anzulda, Gloria. The Path of Red and Black ink. Multi-cultural literacy

This story is the worst. I caught myself tying to read it several times because I could not understand it. There was so much going around the bush before it goes to the point. I just feel that I didn’t get anything of what she was trying to write. There were a lot of words that was said in Spanish which I think threw the reader away of what she is trying to imply.

First of all, before I took this class I have a lot of anxiety. Being this class requires a lot of writing, reading, assignments and TIME. It required a lot of time and effort which I thought I could not do it because I do not own my time. I have two children to attend to and by saying that it says it all….Children. I contemplated wether or not to take the subject at all. On my firs day of class I met my teacher. My first impression was she may be a good teacher, approachable, and she has this smile that reminds me of one of my favorite actress “Renee Zellweger”.  So I thought, maybe this could be a good thing. An approachable teacher is a plus because it will be easier for a student like me who may have to ask a lot questions especially I haven’t been in school for a long time. So I tried one session to the next then before I knew it the class is almost over. My journey began in learning literature.

Since the class is almost over I could look back now and say I did it. I made it through. All my efforts, class participation and just merely being in class and learning the “pros and cons”of writing is beginning to pay off. The formal writing is what they call it. I learn to collect my thoughts, construct a sentence, a paragraph and put everything into writing with correct grammar, punctuation, period, and discover a new vocabulary. One thing that would stick the most is the “4 T’s” in making a thesis which is very helpful and will be in the future. The famous “4 T’s and the MLA” style of writing which is really useful in research projects as well. It taught me how to write the THESIS, think of a TOPIC, and giving my writing the ATTITUDE and TENSE and to TELEGRAPH the whole writing in which my audience and the writer can understand better. I believe that using this technique in writing made my writing a whole lot easier. It made me a better writer because in the consciouness of having this TIPS come in very handy.

Writing is one of my weakness yet writing in BLOGS serves as a good practice for me in writing. It gave me great opportunity to polish my writing, to convey my feelings, to reflect and to make comments, and able to get feedbacks as well. I learn how to revise and correct mistakes. I think I am better at it. I also learn how to make links, insert my favorite videos to share to the readers and slowly learning how to add image, audio and videos. Most of all critical thinking of all the reading we have done in class.

Reading literature is a very interesting subject. It became more interesting for me when I was actually putting it into action. Being in this class and learn literature it gave me a broader understanding and made me think critically. Asking questions while you read and anticipate the conclusion of the story I am reading. It is not merely just writing, it was a creative writing of my own imagination, poetry, drama and fiction or non fiction. I like the fact that you could just free write. I think literature represents language of people, its culture and traditions. It introduced me to a new world of experience. I learn about books and Literature. I enjoyed the comedy the tragedy of poem, the play and stories. I may even grow and evolved through our literary journey with our books.

I have grown more aware, knowledgeable of my environment during those time that we were preparing for the earth day and research on how we could take care of our environment. I applied my knowledge at home in which I could share with my children. At this time, as our share to our mother earth. We are religiously participating in “RECYLING” our trash at home with the most common materials like soda cans, bottles, plastic and paper. My son is so happy about it because in his own little way of showing that he learned a lot from it as well. He was able to contribute and gain from it by selling the recycled material and making money for him self and look at as his reward for helping not only in the house but in our community and to earth. I am most proud because I was able to share what I learned from school. I was able to teach my own children while they are young on how to love their environment which they will gain in return for their future. I changed tremendously on my outlook on recycle and littering. My attitude towards trash and recycling has changed. I see a piece of plastic or paper, I am more aware it’s like automatically I would have to pick it up because I know that our marine animals will be in danger by ingesting this materials. What I learn most is LOVE your environment because it gives us food, shelter and life.

I like the actual Earth day awareness. My classmates and I made a good team effort in putting our contribution together. From poster making , exchanging ideas, the passion and the enthusiasm  were overwhelming. Everyone were just pitching in. I love the fact that we were one when it comes to putting up thing together.

I have not done any service project but I guess you could say that my service is at home with my two children. I would like to acknowledge them from being so understanding that their mom has to go back to school in which a lot of times took away a lot of their mommy time. They have been so wonderful in this process. I have to explain to them why sometimes I had to take to my classes when there were no one to turn to take care of them. I also took them to the harbor on “beach clean up” day. We had fun in which now I realized we were able to spend time together and doing a good deed towards out mother nature. It gave me the chance to explain to them the importance of a clean environment.

I got to sit and listen to some of the famous writer and poet in this class. The likes of Al young, Laynie Brown, and Amalio Madueno. It was a great experience to actually listen to this people when they talk about their work. They have so much passion to what they do. It is very inspiring.

In conclusion, It has been a great venture for me learning and I did learn a lot of things. I Believe deserve at least a B in this class. Because I know that I have put in all my best and I deserve it. I started this course with out any prior knowledge in writing at all. I never wrote in my whole life this way. I know my instructor would have to rectify my grades for that matter. I know she knows how much I have put in this class. I have missed 2-3 class days. I have participated from class room discussions, activity, projects, ads, book club, researches, Earth day, blogs, reading assignments and so on and so forth. Over all, I could not believe how much I have improved in my writing skills, from being a lousy writer to a better writer. I think, my writing has better quality, better understanding of the topic, the subject, and quantity from a 1-2 paragraph writer to 300-500 words paragraph and phrases. My class in English 2 has helped me improve tremendously with the quality and techniques of my writing. Using repetitive sentences to point out and emphasize the thought to my writing. The reasoning, consistency, compare, and contrast, the story telling of my own experiences. Over all, I think learning how to write with quality, quantity and techniques of writing has made me a better writer.
